Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - Hit, Hit, Home Run. Rinse. Repeat.
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (53-35) continued their offensive fireworks on Tuesday night, shelling Gary SouthShore Railcats (33-55) starter Adam Heidenfelder (5-4, 4.73 ERA) for 12 runs (seven earned) on 13 hits in 4.0 innings on their way to a 13-5 series-opening win in front of 2,502 wins at Newman Outdoor Field. The RedHawks extended their winning streak to six games, their longest of the 2021 season.
John Silviano, Jordan George, and Sam Dexter each had a home run and Alex Boxwell went 5-for-5 with two runs scored in the win. Fargo-Moorhead scored all of its runs in innings four to six - the RedHawks scored five in the fourth, seven in the fifth, and one in the sixth.
Ryan Flores (9-2, 3.39 ERA) picked up the win after giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits in 5.0 innings pitched. Joe Jones was stellar in his RedHawks debut after replacing Michael Hope on the mound for the seventh inning, throwing a perfect inning with two strikeouts after signing with the team earlier on Tuesday. Tyler Grauer and Austin Ver Steeg also pitched for Fargo-Moorhead. Heidenfelder picked up the loss for Gary SouthShore.
With the 13 runs in Tuesday's game, the RedHawks' season total now stands at 592 runs. Fargo-Moorhead's franchise record for runs in a season stands at 618 runs (2009). The RedHawks have outscored opponents 78-25 over their six-game winning streak.
Chris Coste's squad is also approaching the franchise record for most hits in a season - the 2021 team has 976 hits after Tuesday's game, 40 hits shy of the record of 1,016 set by the 2012 RedHawks. Fargo-Moorhead clubbed 16 hits in Tuesday's win.
The RedHawks and RailCats will continue their series on Wednesday night in Fargo. First pitch is scheduled for 7:02 p.m. on Wednesday. LHP Matt Tomshaw (2-0, 0.69 ERA) will start for Fargo-Moorhead and will face RHP Jack Alkire (5-6, 4.94 ERA) of Gary SouthShore.
