Clearwater Threshers News Release

LAKELAND, FL.- The Clearwater Threshers received a strong start from right-hander Colin Kleven on Sunday, but would manage just three hits in a 3-0 loss to the Lakeland Flying Tigers.

Kleven (0-3) took the hill for the Threshers and was solid early on, only allowing one base runner to reach through the first two innings while facing the minimum.

After retiring the first two batters to start the third, Kleven gave up a single to David Gonzalez. Gonzalez would come around to score two batters later when Tyler Hanover doubled him in from third.

The Flying Tigers (7-3) struck again in the fourth after Lance Durham doubled to lead off the frame and came around to score on an RBI single by James Robbins.

Kleven would go on to retire the next nine batters he faced before giving up a one-out double to left-center field by Jeff Holm. Holm would score one batter later when Drew Longley drove him in on a single to left field.

Lakeland starting pitcher Yorfrank Lopez (1-1) had a bounce-back game from his last outing April 8, when he gave up six runs in just 3.2 innings against Brevard County.

Lopez gave up a hit to Harold Martinez in the first, but faced the minimum through the first 3.1 innings before giving up his second hit of the game to Pete Lavin. Lopez would go on to set down the next nine Threshers he faced before being lifted in the seventh after walking Martinez and Aaron Altherr.

Angel Nesbitt would come on to relieve Lopez and get Casey Serna and Art Charles to fly out to centerfield to end the threat.

A day after having five leadoff men reach base, it took until a leadoff walk to Lavin off of Guido Knudson in the ninth inning for the Threshers (1-9) to accomplish the task.

Knudson was able to squash any Thresher rally by getting the next three batters to strike out to end the game.

The Threshers will look to end their eight-game losing streak Monday night against the Tampa Yankees at George M. Steinbrenner Field. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. and the game can be heard live on threshersbaseball.com starting at 6:45 p.m.
