Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY -Anderson Machado hit a walk-off RBI single with two outs in the 10th inning to give the Louisville Bats (9-9) a 6-5 win over the International League South leading Richmond Braves (10-5) Tuesday night. Bats' center fielder Dewayne Wise hit a solo home run in the second and another in the sixth, his first multi-home run game since July 5, 2004. A crowd of 7,383 saw the Bats win for the second consecutive evening after losing four in a row.
Louisville first baseman Joey Votto broke out of a 4-for-31 slump in his last 10 games, with a three-run home run and two doubles, part of a 3-for-4 night. The Bats also got an unexpected offensive effort from pitcher Tom Shearn. Shearn recorded the first multi-hit game of his career going 2-for-3 and scoring one run.
Carlos Mendez closed the Braves to within one run with his pinch-hit two-run home run in the seventh inning. Center fielder Gregor Blanco tied the game in the eighth with a RBI single to right field. Blanco went 1-for-4 on the evening.
Along with his offensive output, RHP Tom Shearn pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three earned runs and eight hits while striking out four. Wes Wilkerson (2-0, 3.38) earned the win in relief for the Bats. Wilkerson pitched 1.0 inning, striking out two and allowing no earned runs.
Richmond RHP Jonathan Johnson was pulled after 6.0 innings, in which he gave up five earned runs and eight hits including three home runs. RHP Manny Acosta (2-1, 0.87) picks up the loss, giving up the game winning run in the tenth.
Tomorrow's game marks the end of the Bats' six-game homestand. RHP Homer Bailey (1-0, 1.76) takes the mound for the Bats. Bailey has pitched well in each of his last two starts, although has not received a decision for either of his efforts. Richmond will counter with RHP Buddy Carlyle (1-1, 6.28). Wednesday's game is the first Education Day of the season with the first pitch set for 11:05 a.m.
