Bats Defeated by Indians 8-4

Indianapolis, IN - Jeffrey Liefer cleared the bases with a double to right field that capped off a five-run seventh inning as the Indianapolis Indians rallied to beat the Louisville Bats 8-4.

Liefer finished the afternoon 2-for-4 with four RBI to increase his team- leading batting average to .339.

Reggie Rivard (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Pedro Liriano. Rivard surrendered two earned runs on two hits and walked one in two innings of work.

Liriano hurled five strong innings but did not figure into the decision. He gave up eight hits, two earned runs, and struck out three batters.

The Louisville bullpen spoiled a solid pitching effort by starter Joe Valentine. Aaron Myette (1-1) took the loss after giving up six runs, five of them earned, in 1 2/3rd innings.

Valentine gave up only two earned runs on four hits in five innings but received the no-decision.

J.J. Hardy chipped in two hits, including a double and solo home run, for the Indians.

Felipe Lopez and Reggie Taylor both homered in the loss for Louisville.

Indianapolis improves to 12-5 and remains in first place in the West Division of the International League. Louisville falls to 7-12 and remains in last place in the West.
