Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Every Louisville starter reached base as the Bats' offense collected 15 runs on 18 base knocks, including six extra-base hits and saw six different individuals score multiple times to blow past the Indianapolis Indians 15-6 in front of 11,252 on Friday night at Victory Field

With the loss the Indians fall to 62-64 overall and 32-29 at home, while the Bats improve to 73-53 overall and 31-29 on the road with the victory. With the win Louisville takes a 3-2 series lead in the current home/road split series and a 10-6 overall lead with just one more contest left in the current set.

1993 Indiana Mr. Baseball, Scott Rolen, was the only Bats' starter that did not record a hit, but the third baseman did reach on a fielder's choice as every single hitter in the Louisville starting lineup reached base at least once. The Bats began their rout of Indianapolis early as they put three on the board with two-outs in the first.

2B Luis Bolivar was hit by the third pitch of the contest then stole second before he was tagged out at third on a rundown during Rolen's fielder's choice. After the second out of the frame was recorded the Bats put together four straight base knocks to bring home their three scores.

LF Juan Franciso plated Rolen with a single to right field and was joined on base by CF Chris Heisey who slapped a single to left. Both runners were then brought home when 1B Wes Bankston smacked a double to right-center field.

The Indians scored in each of the first three innings as 1B Jeff Clement put them on the board in the first when he scored CF Jose Tabata with a sacrifice fly to center field. Tabata reached on a single and after stealing second moved to third on a single by LF Brian Myrow.

RF Tagg Bozied led off the second with a single and then moved to second on a sac bunt by 3B Neil Walker before a wild pitch allowed him to move to third. SS Argenis Diaz's single to right-center field eventually brought Bozied home for the lone run in the second.

Myrow then collected a tally for the Indians in the third as he reached on a one out base on balls. The left fielder later came plateward on a two-out single by Walker as both hitter's ended up with multiple hits in the contest.

Despite scoring a run in three straight innings, the Tribe could not match Louisville's offensive output as the Bats remained hot at the plate with four scores in the third, a run in the fourth and two in the fifth before they tallied four more in the eighth and one in the ninth.

Louisville put together their multiple run-scoring frames by way of six multi-hit performances, three multi-RBI efforts and six multi-run performances, while they also collected four doubles and two home runs for a total of six extra-base hits.

RF Darnell McDonald (3-for-6, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI) and Heisey (3-for-5, 3 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB) both launched doubles and solo longballs, while each also collected multiple base knocks and scored multiple runs. Francisco (2-for-6, 2 R, 2 RBI), Bankston (1-for-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI) and C Corky Miller (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) each tallied multi-RBI performances, while Francisco and Miller also tallied multiple hits. Bolivar (2-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 SB) and SS Cris Valaika (3-for-5, 1 2B, 2 R, 1 RBI) also added multiple base knocks, while Bolviar also stole two bases and Valaika crossed the plate twice.

With the large multi-run innings and plethora of base knocks, Louisville was able to tally the second most runs against the Indians, this season, just behind Toledo's 16 which occurred in the first game of the season. The Bats' also finished just one hit behind the Mud Hen's for the most base knocks against Tribe pitching this season.

Indianapolis starting pitcher Ty Taubenheim (2.2 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO) received the loss to drop to 5-9 after he gave up seven scores, four of which were unearned, on nine hits in 2.2 innings. The Tribe then used four relief pitchers including two position players to finish the game as OF Larry Broadway (0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 SO) allowed two hits and struck out one in 0.2 innings and INF/OF Chris Barnwell (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB) gave up just one run on one hit in the top of the ninth.

Bats' starting pitcher Sam LeCure (4.1 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 6 SO) didn't fare much better in his start as he lasted 4.1 innings and gave up four runs on eight hits, but struck out six in a no decision. Reliever Enerio Del Rosario (2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) earned his first career Triple-A victory after he allowed just one hit and struck out one in 2.2 scoreless frames.

Indianapolis wraps up their six-game home/road split series with Louisville on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. RHP Virgil Vasquez is scheduled to start for the Indians, while LHP Travis Wood is expected to get the nod for the Bats.

In Friday's game, Kyle England, 50, of Brownsburg, Indiana became the eight millionth fan to attend an Indians game at Victory Field since its inaugural season in 1996. He received a customized "8 Millionth Fan" jersey, threw out a ceremonial pitch and will receive a 2010 Indians season ticket package.

Former National League Most Valuable Player and Indianapolis Indians Outfielder George Foster is scheduled to return to Victory Field on Saturday for the game against Louisville. Foster will sign autographs for fans on the Victory Field concourse throughout the contest.

The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.

Post-game quote -- OF Brian Myrow

(on what has been working at the plate)

"The last couple of games I have been able to wait out the pitchers and swing at strikes. I have also had a couple of balls that weren't hit that well that have just been able to find holes."

(on being fourth in the International League in on-base percentage)

"I think that sometimes, depending on what kind of hitter you are, you have to wait pitchers out. I get into two strike situations a lot, but you can't be afraid to swing. I think that a lot of guys get one strike on them and they start to worry about missing a pitch they are supposed to hit. Then they swing at a pitch they shouldn't and instead of being 3-1, they end up being 2-2."
