Corpus Christi, Texas - The Sod Poodles scored 12 runs on 14 hits to beat the Corpus Christi Hooks 12-3 on Friday night at Whataburger Field, as Ronald Bolaños pitched six strong innings in his regular season Double-A debut to pick up his first Texas League win.

Bolaños, who made three appearances in the 2018 Texas League playoffs, tossed six strong frames. He allowed just two hits and struck out eight. The only run allowed was a leadoff homer to Seth Beer in the second inning, which gave the Hooks a 1-0 lead.

The Sod Poodles responded in the third and began an offensive barrage. Ivan Castillo ripped a two-run triple to right centerfield against Hooks starter Bryan Abreu to give Amarillo a 2-1 advantage. Edward Olivares followed with an RBI single to make it 3-1.

In the fifth, Amarillo scored four runs against Corpus Christi reliever Yohan Ramirez. The big hit of the frame was Owen Miller's bases clearing double down the left field line to give the Sod Poodles a 6-1 lead. Kyle Overstreet, who collected a team-high three hits, laced an RBI single to give Amarillo a 7-1 lead.

Ruddy Giron swatted another two-run triple for the Soddies in the sixth against righty Carlos Sanabria to make it 9-1.

After Bolaños exited the game, Michel Baez pitched a scoreless seventh. Kazuhisa Makita followed with a scoreless frame in the eighth.

In the ninth, the Sod Poodles collected three more runs as the Hooks sent catcher Carlos Canelon to the mound, including a two-run homer from Overstreet.

With the Frisco RoughRiders' loss at Midland on Friday night, the Sod Poodles moved two games behind Frisco for first place in the Texas League South first half standings.

The series continues on Saturday night in Corpus Christi. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m. The Sod Poodles send righty Kyle Lloyd to the hill while Corpus Christi counters with right-hander Christian Javier.

The game airs on 940 AM KIXZ and via streaming platforms. Pregame coverage begins at 6:55 p.m. with Sam Levitt on the play-by-play call.
