CORPUS CHRISTI - In 2009, Whataburger Field hosted 105 baseball events.

The Baseball Capital of South Texas is busy again in '10 with 22 high school and college games before the Hooks begin Texas League play vs. Tulsa April 15.

Calallen, Carroll, Flour Bluff, Gregory-Portland, Mathis, Moody, Sinton and Tuloso-Midway are area high school teams scheduled to meet at Whataburger Field, the best Minor League venue in North America two years running, according to fan polling by Minor League News.

Scott Malone and his Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders play 10 games at the facility, including the school's first-ever meeting with Texas A&M-Kingsville on March 2. The Island University also serves as host institution for the Southland Conference Tournament May 26-29.

TAMUCC, Mississippi State, Oklahoma and UCLA comprise the field for the Fifth Annual Whataburger College Classic, March 12-14.

T-M and G-P top the amateur slate with a 6:30 contest on Monday, February 22. The next night, it's 5A power Carroll and Laredo Alexander.

Other highlights on the menu are final-day action in the 7th Annual Mira's Sports and More Baseball Tournament (March 6) and the annual Moody-Calallen showdown on Saturday, March 20.

Since 2006, Whataburger Field has hosted 44 high school games, including regular-season contests and playoff action through the UIL regional finals. The Trojans and Wildcats have drawn over 41,000 for two three-game series -- 2007 second-round action and the 2009 Region IV 4A finals.
