Macon Mayhem News Release
Backstopped by a 30 save performance (including saving a penalty shot) from Garrett Bartus, the Macon Mayhem shut out the Columbus Cottonmouths 4-0 Saturday night at the Macon Coliseum. The win is the Mayhem's first of the season, and thus the first in franchise history.
Macon is now 1-2-1 and the loss keeps Columbus winless at 0-3-1.
Not only did the Mayhem get its first win and first shutout, the club also got its first power play goal. Mike Wills took advantage of a two-man advantage just past the six minute mark of the first period to give Macon a 1-0 lead.
At 1:58 of the second period Curtis Megginson ripped a blast from the point that beat Columbus goalie Brandon Jaeger for a 2-0 lead. Bartus helped the Mayhem stay in control by stopping Shawn Bates on a penalty shot midway through the period. Daniel Gentzler put the Mayhem up 3-0 with his first goal of the season at 11;23.
The Mayhem squashed any hopes of a Columbus rally as Alexandre LaBonte wrapped up the scoring, also with his first goal of the season, at 10:29 of the third period.
The next action for Mayhem will be its first road game of the season November 6 at Mississippi against the RiverKings.
With the Mayhem scoring at least three goals, Mayhem fans can receive a 25% discount on any online order at www.marcos.com and entering the promo code MAYHEM on sunday November 1.
