KANSAS CITY, KS-RHP Derek Barrows (2-0) tied the longest outing of the season for a Joliet starter by going seven and two-thirds innings and allowing three runs on three hits to help guide the Joliet JackHammers to a 7-3 win over the Kansas City T-Bones before 6,449 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Friday night.
The JackHammers put up four runs in the 1st inning against Kansas City RHP Cody McAlister (4-2). C Phil Avlas (2-4) and CF Adam Klein (1-4) started the inning with back-to-back walks. Avlas stole second base then SS Kevin Rios (1-3) and LF Brad Correll (0-4) popped out.

The JackHammers scored two more runs on the 5th home run of the season for Avlas. It happened in the 4th inning when Avlas smacked a two-run home run over the left field wall. After Backman, Jr. singled to center field to start off the inning, 3B Andrew Pinckney (3-4) reached base on a fielder's choice that retired Backman, Jr. at second base. Avlas followed two batters later with a two-run shot to give the JackHammers their largest lead of the game at 6-1.
Joliet pushed across a run of insurance in the 7th inning. Avlas led off the inning with a double and moved to third base on single by Klein. Rios popped out to right field to score Avlas from third base on the sacrifice fly for a 7-1 Joliet lead.
