Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(EL PASO, Texas) - Sugar Land Space Cowboys infielder Franklin Barreto homered for the second time in his last three games Friday night, with a towering home run on the road in El Paso.
Barreto's three-run shot cleared the batter's eye in center field and was his fourth on the season.
The Space Cowboys went on to drop a 9-5 decision to the Chihuahuas at Southwest University Park.
Shawn Dubin got the start for the Space Cowboys and topped out at 101.1 mph. It was the fastest recorded pitch in the Space Cowboys' history as a Triple A franchise. Dubin struck out four batters through his three innings of work on Friday.
The Space Cowboys jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second thanks in part to Barreto's three-run homer. Barreto's homer traveled an estimated 429 feet to straightaway center field. Scott Manea drove in Alex McKenna with an RBI single prior to the home run.
El Paso countered with four runs of its own in the second. Brent Rooker and Matt Beaty, who was on an MLB Rehab Assignment, each drove in a pair of runs on the evening. The Space Cowboys tallied their final run of the night in the seventh on an RBI groundout from David Hensley.
Chihuahuas first baseman Aderlin Rodriguez hit a solo homer in the first, which was his 11th on the season.
The Space Cowboys will turn to right-hander Peter Solomon for game five of the series at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, with El Paso yet to name a starter.
