Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Barracudas Head Coach Ron Duguay has his team ready to face the high-powered offense of the Miami Manatees this Saturday night at 7:05 at the Miami Arena.

"(Coach) Zac Boyer has put together a skilled hockey team that is capable of scoring a lot of goals as they've shown in their first game," Duguay said. "I know what I'm up against as far as an offensive threat."

Miami (1-0) started off the WHA2 season last Saturday, beating Macon 10-6. Eric Perricone led the Manatees with six points (3g, 3a). Oak Hewer added four points (1g, 3a) and Darren Cain tallied three times. Kevin Swider, Jean-Francois Picard, and Dmitri Doulebenets added three points each in the win.

"I've been teaching my players that our strength will be in how we play defensively and limiting Miami's chances," Duguay said. "We're going to keep doing what we've been doing. Keep our goals against down and eliminate their opportunity to shoot on net. As long as we do that, it will be a close hockey game."

The Barracudas (2-0), led by center Kory Baker (1g, 5 a), and the play of rookie goaltender Brandon Snee (2-0, 1.49 GAA) will be playing again without defenseman Mike Johnson. Johnson was placed on 7-Day Injured Reserve by the team. He could be available for the Macon game on Sunday, November 23rd. With Johnson on IR, the Barracudas have signed defenseman Greg Capson. The Barracudas also traded forward Joe Seroski to Lakeland for future considerations.

"We're excited to be playing Miami this weekend. It's going to be a different game than from last week in Alabama. I anticipate it being more of a speed game and skill game, but a good intense game as well." Assistant Coach Brett Strot added.

After the Miami game, the Barracudas will prepare to wrap up their four-game road trip when they travel to Macon to face-off against the Trax on Sunday, November 23rd. The Barracudas will debut in the new 16,000 seat Veteran's Memorial Arena on Friday night, November 28th vs. Miami Manatees. Face-off time is 7:05 and the JEDC Sports and Entertainment Board will sponsor the first sporting event ever in the brand new arena. The Barracudas will also be in action on Saturday afternoon, November 29th vs. Macon Trax. Face-off time for the Saturday afternoon matinee game is 12:35.
