Barons Win Marathon in 16 innings

The Birmingham Barons won a marathon contest Tuesday night with Mobile at Regions Park, defeating their division rival 5-4 in 16 innings.

Christian Marrero ended the game four hours and thirty-three minutes after it began with a line drive over center fielder Evan Frey's head that scored David Cook.

Ricky Brooks (2-0, 0.00) got his second win is as many appearances. The right-handed reliever allowed no hits in two innings of work.

John Ely started the game for the Barons and allowed four runs (three earned) while striking out six hitters and walking two.

The 16-innings was the longest Barons game since June 16, 2007 when the Baons lost 3-2 at Huntsville in 16 innings. The 4:32 game marked the longest time of game at Regions Park since the Barons started tracking the stat in 2000, and the fourth longest time of game overall. The Barons played a 4:43 game on June 26, 2001 in Huntsville and a 4:36 game in Chattanooga on June 22, 2007.

The same two teams will continue their six-game set with game four on Wednesday night. Daniel Hudson (1-0, 2.25) will make his third start for the Barons opposite Barry Enright (5-6, 3.92). First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
