Birmingham Barons News Release
HOOVER, Ala. - After last year's successful open-audition for a public address announcer, the Birmingham Barons will once again hold tryouts for the coveted position.
"We pride ourselves on being a community operation, and what better way for us to be just that than to give the community a chance to be an integral part of what we do," Barons Director of Media Relations Justin Rosenberg said.
The auditions for the spot will take place on March 11 and 12 at Regions Park. Candidates will be asked to read select parts of the in-game public address script and also do some ad-lib announcing. Past broadcasting or public speaking experience, as well as a general knowledge of baseball, are preferred for all applicants.
To schedule an audition time or to get more information, either call 988-3200, or send an email with the subject line "PA Announcer" to media@barons.com.
It is undecided how many games the contest winner would work during the season. Announcers are paid on a per-game basis and are also provided a free meal in the Barons press box.
The Barons will open the 2009 campaign at home against the Chattanooga Lookouts on Thursday, April 9. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
