
Barons Swat Three Homers in 6-4 Win over Lookouts

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons hit three home runs and extended their division lead to 2.5 games Thursday with a 6-4 win over the Chattanooga Lookouts in front of 2,377 fans at AT&T Field.
The Barons broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the third inning. The Barons loaded the bases against starter Andres Santiago (3-7, 4.86) on walks by Grant Buckner and Jared Mitchell and a base hit by Dan Wagner. Trayce Thompson plated the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly, scoring Buckner from third base. After a flyout by Josh Richmond, Rangel Ravelo crushed a three-run home run to center field giving the Barons a 4-0 lead. The homer was his eighth of the season.
In his Double-A debut, starter Tony Bucciferro (1-0, 4.26) allowed three runs on nine hits over 6.1 IP. The Lookouts scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innigs starting with a Bobby Coyle sacrifice fly in the fifth. Corey Seager followed an inning later with an RBI double cutting the lead to 4-2.
A leadoff double by Chris O'Brien and an RBI single by Noel Cuevas knocked Bucciferro from the game in favor of reliever NelvinFuentes in the seventh inning. Fuentes was able to escape further damage in the inning, collecting the final two outs.
Jared Mitchell and Chris Curley provided key insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innigns respectively with with solo home run extending the lead to 6-3. The homer was Mitchell's 10th in 38 games with the Barons this season while Curley's was his fourth of the year and his first against a team other than the Tennessee Smokies.
Reliever Nestor Molina allowed a solo home run to Bobby Coyle in the ninth but picked up his fifth save of the season as the Barons improved to 22-18 in the second half and 51-59 overall while the Lookouts fell to 40-69 on the year and 14-25 in the second half.
The Barons will look to win their third game in a row tomorrow night as Mike Recchia (5-2, 2.88) takes the hill against Nick Struck (1-6, 7.15). First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 PM CDT.
