Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. - Montgomery (21-20, 56-55) pounded out 17 hits and scored 12 runs Thursday night and defeated the Generals (17-23, 48-61) 12-2 in the opener of the five-game set. Montgomery and Jackson entered the game having dropped four of their last five games. The Generals went down in order in six of the nine frames.
It has become customary for the Generals to score early in recent games, and they did so again as Leon Landry (1x4, R) led off the bottom of the first with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from Ketel Marte (1x3, RBI) to give Jackson the early 1-0 lead. From there it was all Montgomery.
The Biscuits dented the scoreboard in the second as Richie Shaffer hit a towering three-run home run to give his team a 3-1 lead. Montgomery would not look back.
In the fourth inning the Biscuits plated five more runs as all nine batters came to the plate. The big blow was a two-run double by Cameron Seitzer that brought home Leonardo Reginatto and Willie Argo for the 8-1 lead.
After a relatively calm fifth inning, the Montgomery bats got hot again in the sixth as for the second time all nine batters made plate appearances and four runs were added to the scoreboard. Seitzer again came up with a big blow as he hit a three-run homer and the Biscuits led 12-1 after the top of the sixth.
Patrick Brady (1x3, R, HR, RBI) hit his third home run in his second stint with the Generals this season to lead off the bottom of the sixth and the lead was shrunk to 12-2 after six innings.
It was a tough night for Jackson starter Cam Hobson (6-9, 4.14) as he allowed a season-high eight runs on seven hits in just 3.0 innings as he suffered the loss. Michael Colla (7-10, 4.46) earned the win for Montgomery with 6.0 strong innings and allowed just two runs on two hits and retired 13 in-a-row at one point facing just three over the minimum in the outing.
The Generals will attempt to draw even in the series on Friday against the Biscuits. Tyler Olson (5-6, 4.23) will make the start for Jackson as Montgomery will send Dylan Floro (9-9, 3.36) to the mound. Friday is Free Cash Friday and Flat Screen Friday. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
