Barons Fall to Bulldogs, 5-3
April 15, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release
Daniel Carr scored the game-winning goal with 1:25 left in regulation to lead the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 5-3 victory over the Oklahoma City Barons Tuesday night at the Cox Convention Center.
A little more than two minutes after Barons rookie Kyle Platzer netted his second of two goals to tie the game at three with 3:31 remaining in the third period, Carr grabbed a pass from Brandon McNally and skated towards the Barons net before depositing a backhanded shot past Barons goalie Laurent Brossoit for the game's decisive score.
Oklahoma City's loss was its sixth consecutive at home.
Hamilton opened up a 1-0 lead at 13:32 of the first period. After Brossoit made several saves on shots in front of the OKC net, Sven Andrighetto sent a shot from the slot that deflected off Charles Hudon and past the Oklahoma City net minder.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to 2-0 at 17:19 of the first, when a loose puck bounced off the back boards and landed on the left side of the Barons net, where McNally chipped the puck past Brossoit.
One minute, twenty-seven seconds into the second period, Platzer scored the first professional goal of his career, tipping a shot by Andrew Miller past Hamilton goalie Mike Condon to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 2-1.
Following a turnover by the Barons in their offensive zone, Hamilton's T.J. Hensick shuffled a pass from the right corner to the front of the net, where Drayson Bowman redirected the puck under Brossoit's blocker for a 3-1 Bulldogs lead at 2:37 of the third period.
At 10:04 of the third, the Barons closed their deficit to one goal when Brad Hunt fired a shot from the point that bounced over Condon's shoulder.
Platzer's second goal, a wrist shot from the left circle that sailed past the blocker of Condon, tied the game at three.
After Carr's goal gave Hamilton a late 4-3 lead, Morgan Ellis added an empty-net goal to extend the Bulldogs lead to 5-3 with four seconds remaining in the game.
The Barons' next game is Friday, April 17, when they take on the Iowa Wild in a 7 p.m. start at the Cox Convention Center.
