Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, AL â The Birmingham Barons didn't finish the first half the way they wanted but with a 6-4 win over the Chattanooga Lookouts they ensured at least a share of second place. The Barons victory on Monday afternoon came in front of 4,115 fans.
Juan Pinella hit a two-out RBI single during a four-run eighth inning to lead the Birmingham Barons past the Chattanooga Lookouts. Piniella, who extended his hitting streak to 11 games, drove home Darron Ingram with a single to left field to break a 4-4 tie. Carlos Maldonado had produced a bases-loaded, two-run single earlier in the inning to tie the score for Birmingham, which snapped its four-game losing streak. Gabe Alvarez and Guillermo Reyes each doubled, scored a run and notched an RBI for the Barons.
Jim Bullard (2-2) allowed one run and two hits over three innings to pick up the win and Royce Ring pitched a perfect ninth to register his 15th save.
Wilmy Caceres finished with three hits and two stolen bases and Andrew Beattie and Dernell Stenson hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the first inning for Chattanooga, which dropped to the .500 mark (19-19) on the road. Tim Adkins (0-2) surrendered two runs, one hit and a walk over 1/3 of an inning to take the loss.
Tomorrow the Barons will arrive in Orlando to begin the longest road trip of the season. The 15-day trip will encompass 1,905 miles and four cities. The Barons send out RHP Mitch Wylie (1-1, 3.55) to face RHP Matt White (0-2, 5.75). Game time is 6:05 PM and all the action can be heard on 101.1 FM "The Source" with Curt Bloom on the play-by-play.
