Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Enemencio Pacheco (7-2) and the Birmingham Barons evened the three-game series at one game all as they beat the Jacksonville Suns 7-2 in front of 5,563 fans on Saturday night at the Hoover Met.

Pacheco dominated the Suns once again as he improved his record against Jacksonville to a perfect 3-0. He fired seven solid innings giving up just one run on six hits while striking out a season-high eight batters. With pitching like that the offense doesn't need to do much but the Birmingham bats responded in a big way

The offense pounded out 18 hits, 12 off Jacksonville starter Alfredo Gonzalez, and plated seven runs as every starter either picked up a hit or scored a run. Guillermo Reyes went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI and reached base five times and Jeremy Reed knocked out four hits of his own to raise his batting average to an unbelievable .500 (32-for-62). Reed extended his hitting-streak to a team leading 13 games with his first inning single and has now hit in 15 of the 16 games he has played as a Baron. Carlos Maldonado went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Chad Durham rapped out three hits as well.

Ryan Meaux tossed two scoreless innings to finish out the game for Pacheco as the Barons moved back to .500 at 41-41 and into a three-way tie for first in the West division with Mobile and Huntsville.

Tomorrow in the rubber game of the three game series the Barons send out RHP Mitch Wylie (1-2, 5.40) to face RHP Joel Hanrahan (8-3, 2.27). Game time is 6:00 PM and all the action can be heard on 101.1 FM with Doug Bell, filling in for Curt Bloom, on the play-by-play.
