Barons Drop Game 4 of Series, Snapping Win Streak

April 23, 2022 - Southern League (SL)
Birmingham Barons News Release

The Barons three game win streak was snapped with a 6-5 loss to the Shuckers, the third straight one run game between the two.

Biloxi struck first in the opening frame. Felix Valerio singled to centerfield off of Birmingham starter Kaleb Roper. The righty then threw a wild pitch, allowing Joey Wiemer to score the second run of the game.

Roper only lasted two innings, and only one of the runs charged to him were earned. Hansen Butler came in and burned three innings, only showing weakness in the fifth inning. Felix Valerio tripled to left field, bringing in Joey Wiemer.

The Barons responded in the home fifth with a Lenyn Sosa sacrifice fly to plate the first Baron run of the day. Birmingham showed true life in the seventh when Yolbert Sanchez plated two on a single to right field and tied the game.

The knockout punch came in the ninth inning when Garrett Mitchell hit a three-run shot to straight away center field to give Biloxi a 6-3 lead. The homer came off of Birmingham's Brian Glowicki, giving him the loss.

Tyler Neslony hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth, but it was not enough to complete the comeback.

The Barons send out LHP Steven Moyers (0-2, 7.45) tomorrow against LHP Nick Bennett (1-0, 3.38) for the Shuckers. First pitch is at 6:30 CT.
