Birmingham Barons News Release

KODAK, TN -- The Birmingham Barons saw yet another quality start fail to end in victory, dropping the fourth game of the series to the Tennessee Smokies by a 5-3 final score.

Barons' starter James Dykstra spun seven strong frames, allowing just one earned run on seven hits. The California native recorded three strikeouts while tossing 63 strikes and 98 total pitches.

Reliever Colin Kleven held the lead but took the loss, allowing a pair of hits and two earned runs in 0.2 innings out of the bullpen. Outfielder Courtney Hawkins kept Birmingham out front in the eighth inning, throwing out Chesny Young at home plate to preserve a Barons 3-2 lead.

Andre Wheeler allowed the decisive play of the game, getting tagged with a blown save after Ian Happ lofted the first pitch he saw over the fence in right-center field.

Marcus Lemon and Hunter Jones erased an early 2-0 deficit for the Barons; Lemon brought home Keon Barnum to start the scoring in the fourth inning before Jones slugged his second homer with Birmingham.

Barnum sent the Barons out front in the fifth, plating Hawkins with an RBI single. Jones paced Birmingham with a 3-for-4 night at the dish, while Barnum and Keenyn Walker each added a pair of hits. Trey Michalczewski coaxed a pair of walks.

Thaddius Lowry will start the series finale as Birmingham and Tennessee battle for the series win tomorrow night at Smokies Park.
