Barons Activate Courtney Hawkins from the Disabled List

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Barons and the Chicago White Sox announced before the game today that the team has activated outfielder Courtney Hawkins from the Disabled List. To keep the active roster at 25, the team has released RHP Miguel Chalas.

Hawkins, 22, is hitting .143 with four home runs and eight RBIs in 16 games so far this season. The outfielder was placed on the disabled list on April 24. The 2012 first-round pick of the White Sox is currently in his third season with the Barons. Hawkins led the team with 12 home runs last season and hit 19 home runs in both 2013 and 2014 as a member of the Winston-Salem Dash.

Chalas, 24, has pitched is seven games out of the Barons bullpen this season, going 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA. The right hander pitched with the Barons in 2015, compiling a 3-0 record with a 2.03 ERA in 14 games, but missed all of 2016 with an injury. Chalas was signed by the Baltimore Orioles as an undrafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2010.

The Barons will continue their five home stand against the Mississippi Braves through Sunday afternoon.
