Mississippi Braves News Release


PEARL, MS -- Mississippi Braves catcher Sal Giardina has been activated off the disabled list and is available for tonight's game in Birmingham. In corresponding moves, M-Braves catcher Armando Araiza has been traded to Baltimore for cash considerations.

Giardina, 25, began the season on the M-Braves disabled list. Last season at High-A Carolina, the catcher posted a .246 average with nine doubles, two triples, three home runs and 19 RBI in 67 games for the Mudcats. A native of Florida, Giardina was selected by the Braves in the 31st round of the 2014 draft out of Lynn University.

Araiza, 23, was hitting .143 through 11 games with the Double-A Braves. He split last between the Tigres de Quintana Roo of the Mexican League before joining High-A Charlotte for 18 games and finishing the season at Double-A Montgomery where he hit .296 in nine contests. The Mexico native was a free agent signee by the Braves on November 11, 2016.

The Mississippi roster has 25 active players and 5 disabled.
