Lancaster Stormers News Release

Lancaster's trio of right-handed pitchers each fired a scoreless inning on Wednesday evening, but that was not enough as Somerset shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez stroked a walkoff single to left field in a 4-3 victory for the Liberty Division.

Nate Reed was the first Barnstormers' pitcher to enter the game. After allowing a leadoff single to veteran Long Island Duck Lew Ford, the lefty coaxed a 6-4-3 double play out of New Britain's Jason Rogers. The Bees' right fielder Jamar Walton grounded to third to end the inning.

Garrett Granitz worked a perfect seventh inning, retiring the side in order on ground balls. Scott Shuman walked the first two batters he faced in the eighth, but, his Lancaster batterymate Ryan Casteel gunned down Rodriguez trying to steal third. Around a catcher's interference call with Ford at the plate, Shuman struck out Somerset's Julio Borbon and Long Island's David Washington to end the inning.

At the plate, Vladimir Frias picked up the only hit for the Lancaster contingent with a single leading off the top of the fourth. Darian Sandford walked, singled and scored in the Freedom Division's three-run third inning.

Blake Gailen went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks. Casteel, who caught the whole game, was 0-for-3.

New Britain's Jonathan Galvez walked off Sugar Land's Felipe Paulino to open the bottom of the ninth. He was forced at second by the Road Warriors' Gustavo Pierre. Mike Fransoso of Somerset picked up a single to right. Paulino retired former Lancaster catcher Isaac Wenrich, now with the Road Warriors, on a pop up, but Rodriguez scored Pierre with a single to left.

Evan Scribner, the New Britain closer, struck out the side in the top of the ninth to earn the win.

Southern Maryland's Frank Martinez had the game's most productive hit, driving in two of the Freedom Division's runs with a single to center in the third.
