Lancaster Stormers News Release
The 2012 Lancaster Barnstormers made a very strong first impression on the home crowd Saturday afternoon with a 6-2 win over the visiting Camden Riversharks in an exhibition game during the annual Fan Fest.
Blake Gailen homered, doubled and scored three times while Terry Tiffee chimed in with three hits as Lancaster improved its spring record to 2-0.
Camden bolted out to an early 2-0 lead. J.D. Durbin walked Drew Macias to open the afternoon. Chris Walker followed with a double into the left center field gap that chased Macias home. Walker was gunned down at third on a dribbler back to Durbin, but Brian Burgamy and Marquez Smith added singles to produce the second run.
Durbin got Lloyd Turner to ground into a 6-4-3 double play, and the Riversharks would not have another baserunner until a one-out single by Smith in the fourth. The visitors would manage only two other hits and one walk over the remainder of the afternoon.
The Barnstormers tied the game in the second. Gailen led off with a walk from Sean Jarrett and took second on a single by Kody Kirkland. Both runners advanced as Jarrett misconnected on a pitch with batterymate Shea Harris. Jaime Pedroza and Eduardo Perez each picked up an RBI with a ground ball to level the score.
Perez gave Lancaster a 3-2 lead in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to left off loser Joe D'Alessandro, scoring Gailen, who had doubled to the right center alley to start the inning.
Lancaster tacked on three more in the sixth. Tiffee reached when his pop fly to left fell between Walker and shortstop Paddy Matera. Lentini doubled over the head of Macias in right to send Tiffee to third, and both runners picked up one more base when the return throw to the infield rolled free. Lentini raced home on a wild pitch before Gailen launched the Barnstormers first home run of the spring beyond the picnic tents in right field to cap the scoring.
Les Walrond, the second of six Barnstormers pitchers earned the win. The lefty worked two innings, yielded two singles and striking out three.
The exhibition game between the Barnstormers and York Revolution scheduled for Sunday morning at Sovereign Bank Stadium has been cancelled due to heavy rain in the forecast. The Barnstormers are slated to head to Camden for a noon game on Monday before wrapping up the exhibition schedule with a 1 pm home game against Southern Maryland on Tuesday.
