Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers will have a pair of former Manheim Township Blue Streaks in uniform when camp opens on April 14, it was announced today by manager Butch Hobson.
Corner infielder Austin Gallagher, who spent a portion of the 2013 campaign with the Barnstormers, returned this winter in a trade with the American Association's Sioux City Explorers and has officially signed with the Barnstormers. In addition, right-hander Pete Andrelczyk has been invited to camp on a tryout waiver.
Gallagher, 25, signed with the Dodgers in 2007 and spent six seasons in the LA system. The lefty batter hit from .283 to .293 in each of his four seasons in the Class A California League, reaching double figures in home runs in each of the last two.
The former third round pick joined the Barnstormers at the end of May in 2013 and batted .237 in 30 games. He was subsequently traded to Amarillo and later Sioux City, where he played for current Barnstormers hitting coach Stan Cliburn. Gallagher batted .293 in the American Association.
Gallagher's brother, Cameron, is currently catching for the Class A Carolina League's Wilmington Blue Rocks, in his fourth season in the Kansas City farm system.
"Stan told me Austin played an outstanding third base for him last year," said Hobson. "It's a great position for him to be seen by organizations. Plus we look for him to be able to drive in some runs for us."
Andrelczyk, 28, signed with the Florida Marlins in 2008 and spent the last six seasons in their organization. The right-hander saved 19 games while closing for Class A Greensboro in 2009 but had his best season in 2011 when he recorded nine wins, all in relief and had a 2.26 ERA between Class AA Jacksonville and Class AAA New Orleans.
Last year, the former Coastal Carolina Chanticleer was 1-3 with four saves and a 2.84 ERA between Jacksonville and Class A Jupiter.
In his minor league career, Andrelczyk has a 2.98 ERA and a strikeout/walk ratio over three.
"When you have a chance to sign local guys, it's always good for the organization," said Hobson. "Pete is a sinkerballer with experience, and we look forward to him being an integral part of the pitching staff."
The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their tenth season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
