Camden Riversharks News Release

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Camden Riversharks have signed outfielder Scott Cousins to a contract, the team announced today. He adds to the Riversharks tradition of signing MLB players, such as Stephen Drew, Jared Weaver, and Chris Widger.

Cousins, 29, joins Camden after spending last season with the Los Angeles Angels. The lefthanded bat spent parts of four seasons in the big leagues with the Marlins and the Angels.

"Scott Cousins is a quality signing that we feel great about," said Riversharks manager Ron Karkovice. "He is a hard-nosed outfielder who plays the game the right way, and we also see him as a veteran leader in the clubhouse. Adding him to our roster bolsters what is already a great team. I am confident that Scott will be back in the majors soon."

In eight minor-league seasons, including four at the AAA level, Cousins brings a .275 batting average and 94 steals to Campbell's Field. He patrols the outfield with a career .976 fielding percentage.

Cousins may be best known for his 2012 collision at the plate with Giants catcher Buster Posey. The impact ended Posey's season and caused MLB to take a closer look at rules regarding blocking the plate.

The Riversharks home opener is on May 2nd, 2014 at 7:05. Ticket information is available on www.riversharks.com .
