Iowa Barnstormers News Release

Des Moines, Iowa - On a night where everything seemed to be going the Barnstormers way, Iowa squandered a 10 point fourth quarter lead to fall to the Alabama Vipers 45-55 in front of 8,143 fans at Wellmark Field.

Iowa's fourth home loss of the season drops the team to 3-5 while Alabama improves to 5-4.

The teams traded scores throughout the first half, as Iowa took a narrow 28-26 lead into the locker room. The Barnstormers came out firing in the second half, turning two Tanner Varner interceptions into a commanding 41-26 lead. However, the Vipers would not go quietly as quaterback Kevin Eakin rallied his team by throwing 3 fourth quarter touchdown passes, including the game winner to WR Alonzo Nix with 12 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Barnstormers had one last shot to win the game, however kicker Jeff Glas' 40 yard field goal attempt sailed wide right, giving Alabama the 45-44 victory.

The Barnstormers now hit the road for two crucial games at Bossier-Shreveport (June 12) and Cleveland (June 19).. Iowa returns home to face the Utah Blaze on Saturday, June 26th, when they celebrate Military Night.
