Barnstormers Fall To Gladiators 70-56

The Iowa Barnstormers dropped a 70-56 decision to the Cleveland Gladiatos before 8,059 fans at Wellmark Field in Des Moines, IA on Saturday night. The Gladiators won on the road for the second straight week, improving to 2-3. Meanwhile the Barnstormers saw their two-game win streak come to an end dropping Iowa to an identical record of 2-3.

Iowa started the game strong, jumping out to a 12 point lead early in the second quarter, but Cleveland countered, narrowing the lead to 36-35 as the teams headed to the dressing room. The Gladiators came out in the second half scoring first to take the lead 42-36 and never looked back. The Barnstormers were unable to stop the Cleveland offense as quarterback John Dutton completed 31 of 39 passes for 355 yards and 5 touchdowns. Iowa quarterback Ryan Vena also had a strong game combining for 6 touchdowns (4 rush, 2 pass), earning "Ironman of the Game" honors, but in the end it wasn't enough to overcome Cleveland.

The Barnstormers now hit the road for a crucial game against their division rival the Chicago Rush next Saturday, May 15th. . Iowa returns home to face the Arizona Rattlers on Friday, May 21st.
