Iowa Barnstormers News Release

Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Barnstormers had a great start to Saturday night's game, only to fall one point short again, this time to the San Antonio Talons by a score of 35-34. With the loss, the Barnstormers playoff hopes take a major hit, as they fall to 6-9 on the season. Meanwhile San Antonio improves to 8-6 and is now tied for the Central division lead with the idle Chicago Rush.

Things couldn't have started better for the Barnstormers as they jumped out to an early 7-0 lead at WR Darius Reynolds recovered a loose ball off of the net for a TD on the opening kickoff. The Talons tied the game 7-7 when QB Rohan Davey connected with WR Jomo Wilson for a 3 yard score. However, Iowa responded with a 20 yard TD pass from QB J.J. Raterink to WR Marco Thomas. The touchdown was the first of 4 times the Barnstormers duo would hook up on the night.

With Iowa leading 20-7, the Talons fought back with two quick TD drives at the end of the second quarter. Iowa drove down the field, all the way to the San Antonio 3 yard line when time ran out in the first half. The teams went to the locker room with the Talons holding a narrow 21-20 lead.

The Barnstormers bounced back, taking a34-28 lead into the fourth quarter, compliments of two more touchdown receptions by Thomas. San Antonio regained the lead for good 35-34, when Davey connected with WR Xavier Lee from 9 yards out. From there the teams exchanged possessions, with each failing to score. The Barnstormers found themselves driving for the victory in the game's final minutes following a De'Mon Glanton interception of Davey. Once again, Iowa drove to the brink of the San Antonio goal line. Faced with a 4th down situation, the Barnstormers decided to attempt a field goal to win the game. However the kick by newly acquired Ross Gornall was blocked, preserving the one-point victory for the Talons.

The Barnstormers now enter their only bye week of the season. Iowa then heads South for a matchup against the Orlando Predators on July 13th, before returning home to Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday July 20th to face the Utah Blaze in the first annual Iowa Bacon Bowl! Ticket packages that include the game and pre-game bacon bowl tailgate party are on sale now for just $25.00. Fans can order their package at the Wells Fargo Arena box office, by calling the Barnstormers at 515.633.2255 or online at www.theiowabarnstormers.com.
