Barnstormers Extend Streak in Extra-Inning Contest
May 24, 2018 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
It took the Lancaster Barnstormers 12 innings to earn their 12th consecutive victory on Wednesday night with a 4-3 decision over the York Revolution at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
By extending their record streak, the Barnstormers pushed their Freedom Division lead to 3 1/2 games over the Sugar Land Skeeters.
Rico Noel, the league's leading hitter, ripped a double into the left field corner off Tyler Cravy (0-1). Cravy struck out Darian Sandford on a pitch in the dirt. Just as Luis Cruz released his throw to first, Noel took off for third and made it without a throw. Cravy hit Tyler Bortnick with a pitch, bringing up Blake Gailen. The Lancaster right fielder bunted past the mound, scoring Noel with the winning run.
York trailed, 3-1, entering the top of the eighth when Jose Cuevas hit a quirky bouncer down the third base line that eluded Bortnick for a double. Then, Luis Cruz lofted a pop up toward the third base seats. Bortnick, battling stairs and TV equipment, dropped the ball. Cruz, with the additional life, banged a triple to deep right center. Ryan Dent singled up the middle to tie the game at 3-3. A wild pitch sent Dent to second, and Rubi Silva beat out an infield single to put runners at the corners.
Matt Reynolds took over and got Jared Mitchell to bounce back to the mound, ending the threat.
Lancaster missed out on a golden opportunity to win the contest in the bottom of the ninth when Grant Sides wiggled out of a bases loaded, one-out jam created on a single by Ryan Casteel, a ground rule double and an intentional walk to Vladimir Frias.
Joey Terdoslavich slammed a two-run homer in the first to stake the Barnstormers to a 2-0 lead. The Revs put a run on the board off four straight singles in the top of the third, with Welington Dotel driving home the run. Steve Johnson escaped the bases loaded jam, getting Michael Burgess to squirt into a 6-4-3 double play.
Terdoslavich singled, stole second and scored on a base hit to left by Ryan Casteel before the first out in the fourth inning. The Barnstormers went 8 1/3 innings before scoring again.
Jared Lakind (1-1) pitched two perfect innings to notch the win.
The series concludes on Thursday morning with Lancaster sending lefty Tommy Shirley (3-0) to the mound against York right-hander Zac Grotz (0-0).
