Lancaster Stormers News Release
Sunday afternoon started with plenty of promise for the Lancaster Barnstormers but took a quick downward spiral.
Lancaster's four-game winning streak came to an end as the rival York Revolution rolled out 10 unanswered runs on the way to a 10-2 victory over the Barnstormers in the series finale at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
York lefty Chris Cody (2-1) struggled early, needing 59 pitches to get through the first two innings. The Barnstormers reached him for a pair of runs in the second. Singles by Olmo Rosario and Charlie Neil got the host squad rolling in that second inning. Tsuyoshi Takashima got one across on a check swing roller up the third base line, and a single to center by Blake Gailen plated a second run for a quick 2-0 Lancaster lead.
After that inning Cody got tougher and allowed only one infield single over the next four frames.
The Revolution surged back. Jay Buente (1-3) walked the first two batters in the third, then gave up back-to-back singles to Andres Perez and Brian Burgamy to produce the first York run. After a wild pitch allowed a second run to score, Andy Marte's smash to third was speared by Travis Denker to temporarily hold off the York charge, but the Revs were able to plate a third tally when Perez scored on a single behind second base by Jeff Fiorentino.
A power display came later. Salvador Paniagua crunched a long, two-run double through a stiff breeze in the fifth off Robert Hinton. Fiorentino belted a two-run homer in the sixth against Yoslan Herrera. Paniagua came back with a two-run blast to Home Run Harbor in the top of the seventh inning against Horacio Ramirez to cap the scoring.
The Barnstormers finished the day with 11 hits, all singles. Daryle Ward, Rosario and Takashima each picked up his second hit in the ninth off Stephen Penney, but Lancaster did not climb closer.
Lancaster heads to Camden on Tuesday to take on the Riversharks at 7:05. Lenny DiNardo, in his first start since dealing a no-hitter against the Long Island Ducks on Wednesday night, will take the mound for the Barnstormers. The left-hander is 2-2 on the season. He will be opposed by right-hander Josh Walter (1-2). Fans may tune in on WLAN, 1390-AM; WPDC, 1600-AM; 1390wlan.com; or the I Heart Radio cell phone app beginning at 6:45.
NOTES: Cody beat the Barnstormers for the seventh time in two-plus seasons...Rosario extended his hitting streak to seven games...Ward has batted safely in six in a row...The game marked the fourth time this season that Lancaster has been held without an extra-base hit.
