Barnstormers Come up Short Against Division Leading Rush

Chicago, IL. - The Iowa Barnstormers season of untimely mistakes and missed opportunities continued Sunday afternoon in Chicago as they fell to the division leading Chicago Rush by a score of 58-48. After being plagued by poor starts all season long, things seemed to be different on this day as the Barnstormers jumped out to a 27-7 first quarter advantage over Chicago. Finally, everything seemed to fall Iowa's way as QB Bryan Lee-Lauduski connected with WR Jesse Schmidt for three first quarter touchdown passes, while the Barnstormers defense forced a turnover and the special teams chipped in with a net recovery which helped spot the Barnstormers to the 20 point lead.

However, much like before Chicago chipped away at the lead, remarkably holding the Barnstormers pointless for the next 30 minutes of play. By half-time the Rush had rallied to tie the game at 27-27 and the third quarter was much of the same as Chicago took the lead and increased it to 40-27 at the end of three quarters of play.

Much to the Barnstormers credit, they did not give up as Lee-Lauduski found WR Errick McCown for two fourth quarter touchdowns, to give Iowa a narrow 41-40 lead. However Chicago WR/KR Reggie Gray scored on back to back kick-off returns of 57 and 55 yards to ice the game for the Rush. With the loss, Iowa drops to 3-11 on the season, while Chicago improves to 10-4, maintaining the top record in the National Conference's Central Division.

The Barnstormers return home to Wellmark Field this Friday night, July 1 when the Tulsa Talons come to town. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05pm.
