Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster community has every reason to be proud.
Atlantic League officials have named the 2016 Atlantic League All-Star Game and Farm Show as the year's top event and promotion in the circuit. Also, Clipper Magazine Stadium has been selected as the Atlantic League's top ballpark for the 2016 season.
The All-Star Game and Farm Show was a celebration of expansive Lancaster County agricultural community as well as Atlantic League Baseball. It tied together several elements from modern advances in farming to the local history to young urban professionals raising crops within the city limits. Livestock was on hand atop the hill in left field. Iowa farmer and reality TV star Chris Soules made an appearance at the game and the post-game festivities. All between inning games for the evening centered on an agricultural theme. The Barnstormers also partnered with local businesses businesses to raise $12,000 for the Lancaster County Ag Council.
Despite heavy downpours throughout the afternoon and early evening, the event still attracted 8,466 to the stadium, only 19 fans shy of the stadium record for baseball.
Clipper Magazine Stadium, in its 12th year, has become a true centerpiece of Lancaster County. Not only did it play host to 70 regular season Barnstormers games and the All-Star Game in 2016, rock stars Peter Frampton and Lynyrd Skynyrd performed in concert. There were four professional soccer games. Professional fast pitch softball made its way to the field on Prince Street for the second consecutive season.
In addition to the variety of sporting events, a large number of other functions were held at the stadium. Clipper Magazine Stadium served as the kickoff point for numerous charity walks and the focal point of a number of other fundraising drives, including the beginning rally for Go Beyond. There were dinners on the field, in the picnic pavilion and in the upper level party suites, even with the Lancaster Barnstormers on the road.
As busy as the stadium was, it always looked as fresh and clean as the day it opened.
"It is gratifying to receive the recognition of all the hard work that the Barnstormers staff put in, not only to the All-Star Game and Farm Show, but into the entire year," said managing partner Rob Liss. "But, it is the entire Lancaster community that can share in these honors. We have something really special."
