Barnstormers and Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival Announce Iowa Bacon Bowl

Des Moines, IA - Today, more than half of all U.S. homes (53%) keep bacon in their fridge at all times. According to the Pork Checkoff, bacon has become the fastest growing pork category over the last 10 years. As the leading pork producing state and home to the world's premier baconfest, the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival, Iowa continues to play a critical role in the booming bacon industry. To add to Iowa's rich bacon history, the Iowa Barnstormers announced today that it will be first to host a bacon-inspired AFL game, entitled the Iowa Bacon Bowl, to see which team will literally bring home the bacon.

The Iowa Bacon Bowl concept was born over a couple beers between the Iowa Bacon Board and Iowa Barnstormers in the spring of 2012. Brooks Reynolds, Chair of the Iowa Bacon Board, recounts the conversation, "We agreed trophies are awesome and bacon is delicious - therefore a bacon trophy would be awesomely delicious." Reynolds added, "Now, let's leave it to future historians to write the rest."

"The world depends on Iowans for quality bacon and this is something we have great pride in," explained Jeff Lamberti, Principal Owner of the Barnstormers. Lamberti continued, "So, we've committed the full strength and resources of Iowa Barnstormers to battle for the respect deserving of Iowa's great bacon industry and the people and companies that supports it." Lamberti invites all Iowans to come and cheer on the Barnstormers as they defend the Iowa Bacon Bowl Trophy and the Iowan agricultural pioneers it represents.

The Iowa Bacon Bowl will be held on Saturday, July 20th. The event will kickoff at 3pm with an exclusive Iowa Bacon Bowl Tailgate Party where Barnstormer fans will receive a commemorative beer mug, one free beverage, live music and the opportunity to purchase bacon-inspired dishes from local restaurants. The game begins at 7:05 pm when the Iowa Barnstormers take on the Utah Blaze in the battle for Iowa Bacon Bowl Trophy.

A limited number of Bacon Bowl Packages are available. Each package will include entrance into the Bacon Tailgate and a ticket for the game. The ticket packages are $25 each and will be made available at precisely noon on Thursday, June 6 online at www.blueribbonbaconfestival.com. The best seats to the game will be awarded in the order tickets are purchased. Season ticket holders will have an option to purchase a ticket to the tailgate while supplies last by calling the Barnstormers' office at (515)633-2255 beginning on Tuesday, June 4.
