Barnstormers Add A "TD" And A "Payne Train"

DES MOINES - Iowa Barnstormers Head Coach and Director of Football Operations John Gregory announced today that the team has reached agreement with Wide Receiver, Tim Dodge and Full Back J.J. Payne for the 2010 season. Both veterans will enter their third seasons with the club
Dodge (5-10, 190) joined the Barnstormers as a free agent in 2008, after four stellar seasons with the Quad City Steamwheelers (2003-06). The Britt, IA native and alumni of the University of Iowa had his breakout year in 2004 when he was named the league's Ironman of the Year after catching 108 passes for 1596 yards and 24 touchdowns. He followed that up with consecutive 104 catch seasons, which included a career high 27 touchdown receptions in 2006. After taking a year off in 2007, Dodge was persuaded by the Barnstormers to return to arena football in 2008. His return has been a great success as he has compiled 192 catches for 2,022 yards and 36 touchdowns in 32 career games with Iowa.
"Any time you can add a player of Tim's abilities, you have to do so" said Barnstormers Head Coach John Gregory. "He provides great leadership both on and off the field and be a role model for our younger players".
Payne (6-0, 250) also joined the Barnstormers as a free agent in 2008. The Western Illinois graduate has led Iowa in rushing yards for each of the past two seasons and has been a key component in providing pass protection for Barnstormer Quarterbacks. He has also been a big contributor on special teams. When asked to comment on his return, Payne stated, "I'm thrilled to be back with the Barnstormers for another season, and can't wait to play again in front of Arena Football's best fans".
