San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, TX - Starter Chandler Barnard pitched a four-hit complete-game shutout and the Colts pounded Edinburg pitching for three homers and 14 hits in a series-opening 7-0 victory on Friday night at Foster Field.
The Colts jumped on Roadrunners' starter Tim Haines early as designated hitter Jason Crosland smacked his league-leading 16th homer of the year in the first, a two-run shot, to give the Colts a 2-0 lead.
San Angelo would put the game away with two more dingers in the third. The first was another round-tripper by Crosland (17), this time a three-run shot, to make the score 5-0. Third-baseman Landon Camp (11) followed that with a long two-run homer that just stayed inside the left-field foul pole to extend the San Angelo lead to 7-0.
Crosland led the San Angelo offensive attack by going 3-5 with two homers and five RBI, while second baseman Mark Ramos reached base all five times he came to the plate by going 3-3 with three singles, two walks and a run scored. Second-baseman Wilmer Pino led the way for Edinburg by going 2-4 with two stolen bases.
That was more than enough for Barnard who went through his second-straight start without giving up an earned run. He allowed only one walk and five baserunners throughout the evening as he upped his record to 5-2. Barnard threw 106 pitches, 72 of which were for strikes as he extended his consecutive innings streak without allowing an earned run to 18.2. Haines (4-6) suffered the loss for the Roadrunners allowing seven runs on nine hits in only five innings of work. The Colts and Roadrunners return to action Saturday in game two of their four-game series with a 7:05 start. Aaron Cunningham (4-5, 5.85) will go for San Angelo against league ERA leader Wardell Starling (6-1, 3.07 ERA) of Edinburg. Satruday will also be Baseball Card Giveaway Night as the first 1,000 fans will receive a free pack of Colts player cards courtesy of Quest Capital Strategies. Saturday evening will also be Concho county night and Bring Home the 'W' courtesy of Whataburger. If the Colts win each fan in attendance will receive a gift certificate to a free hamburger from Whataburger. The broadcast of the game begins at 6:50 with the Kemps' Pregame Show and can be heard on 1260 KKSA.
