Banister Addresses the Media

Calgary Roughnecks News Release


Following a statement he released to the media yesterday, Calgary Roughnecks owner, president and general manager Brad Banister today addressed issues surrounding the injury to Tracey Kelusky and the incident involving Calgary Roughnecks players on Sunday, January 12.

Banister made the following points

· "Despite some reports in the Calgary media, this incident did not take place in Classic Jacks Restaurant and Bar. As an organization, the Roughnecks sincerely regret that this establishment, its ownership, management and staff has been brought into this situation.

· "A report in the Calgary Herald today quoted "A source close to Kelusky said, "Some guy sucker punched him (when Kelusky) was leaving the bar." This is not true.

· "Team captain Tracey Kelusky did become involved in this incident, but only after being struck while trying to diffuse an escalating situation.

· "It is important to note that this situation became public information through release by the Roughnecks office. In keeping with our policy of being open, forthright and honest with our fans and the media we brought the situation forward.

· "The following Roughnecks players were present during an incident on Sunday evening:
- Jesse Phillips
- Kyle Goundrey
- Brad MacArthur
- Shawn Cable
- Jordon West-Pratt
- Ryan Campbell
- Kaleb Toth
- Tracey Kelusky

· "The players involved have expressed their sincere remorse and embarrassment for being involved in this incident. These players realize they are hero's to kids in this city, they will now work hard to repair any damage this situation may done in that regard.

· "Disciplinary actions will continue to be and have been taken in regards to this incident."
