Bangor Signs Maine Resident

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks have signed pitcher Jeremy Shorey, the Northeast League club announced today. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not announced.

The right-handed Shorey, a native of near-by Lisbon, ME, was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 21st round of the 2000 draft. He spent two years in their organization, pitching for the Ogden (UT) Raptors of the Pioneer League. In 2001, Jeremy went 3-2 with a 5.03 ERA from the Raptors bullpen. He struck out 30 in 40.1 innings pitched.

"We expect Jeremy to come in and compete for a spot. Kash really likes him and it's great to have someone from Maine on our ball club. I'm excited at what he brings to the table," stated Jacks General Manager Curt Jacey.

The 22 year-old Shorey, who stand 6-4 and weighs 210 pounds, took the 2002 season off following his release from the Brewers.

The Lumberjacks open the 2003 campaign on the road against the Allentown (PA) Ambassadors on Thursday, May 22, but return to Bangor for the home opener on Friday, May 30 at 7 PM against the New Jersey Jackals at Mahaney Diamond.
