Bangor Lumberjacks News Release
Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks announced today that they have signed RHP Ashton Stone to a contract for the 2003 Northeast League season. To make room for Stone on the roster, the Lumberjacks placed SS Mitsuru Kobayashi on the disabled list.
Stone, a native of Portsmouth, RI, helped lead the Bryant College (RI) Bulldogs to three Northeast 10 Conference Championships and an appearance in the 2002 NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament in his senior year, posting a 6-2 record with a 4.02 ERA. Stone struck out 52 batters in 71.2 innings of work.
Ashton was a second team All Northeast 10 selection his sophomore year, after leading all Bryant College starters in wins (5) and ERA (2.57). He pitched into the seventh inning in seven of his ten starts in 2000. His 18 career wins rank him second in school history.
The 23 year-old righty is expected to pitch out of the Lumberjacks bullpen.
The Lumberjacks and the Capitales continue their series at Mahaney Diamond this weekend with games Saturday night at 7:15 PM and Sunday afternoon at 2 PM. Gates open at 6 PM and 1 PM, respectively. Tickets are available by stopping in the Lumberjacks Pro Shop in the Bangor Mall or by calling (207) 947-1900.
