The Bandits strengthened their hold on second place in the South with three victories this weekend. They swept a home-and-home series with the Central Texas Marshals on Wednesday and Friday nights, then returned home to blank the Wichita Falls Wildcats on Saturday night. Riley Gill, now second in the entire NAHL in GAA, kicked his save percentage up to .922 en route to his second and third shutouts of the season, good enough to put him in the lead in the NAHL in that category.
New Bandit Andrew Broughton led the team in Wednesday's game with a goal and an assist in his home debut and Gill stopped all 19 shots he faced in a 4-0 win.
The Bandits league-best special teams lead the way Friday night as they added another two power play goals to pace them past the Marshals 5-2 in Belton. Anthony Becker had a goal and two assists to pace the team in scoring, and Broughton and Casey Haines both added a goal and an assist on the night. The Bandits now have the best road record in the NAHL at 7-2-3.
Steve Bandurski, Colby Jones and Pat Galivan ignited an offensive explosion Saturday night as they each lit the lamp twice in an 8-0 victory. Gill stopped all 28 Wildcat shots and Matt Taormina added a short-handed goal and an assist.
The Bandits now lead the NAHL in short-handed goals with 11 and are third in penalty kill percentage.
GILL'S TWO SHUTOUTS EARNS SHARE OF SHER-WOOD NAHL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Two shutouts in three games is fine work in any league and in the case of the Texarkana Bandits goaltender Riley Gill, it is certainly good enough to earn him the nod a co-winner of Week 10's Sher-wood NAHL Defensive Player of the Week. Gill began the week with a 19-save whitewashing of the Central Texas Marshals on Wednesday. Two nights later on the road, he stopped 29 of 31 Marshals shots in a 5-2 win. A night later, the Northfield, Minnesota, native turned aside all 28 Wichita Falls shots in an 8-0 blanking of the Wildcats. In all, Gill stopped 76 of 78 shots on the weekend for a .974 save percentage and a 0.66 goals against average in the three games. His stellar week boosted his save percentage for the season to .922, which is second in the NAHL. His shutout total of three leads the league and his goals against average for the season of 2.32 ranks third.
