Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

The Wildcats played three games over the weekend, two at Kay Yeager Coliseum vs. the Springfield Jr. Blues, and one on the road vs. the Texarkana Bandits. The ‘Cats won Friday night vs. the Springfield Jr. Blues, lost on Saturday to the Texarkana Bandits and picked up a point in an overtime loss to the Jr. Blues on Sunday.

The Wildcats played a complete game Friday in their 4-2 win against the Jr. Blues. The offense fired on all cylinders, while goaltender Tom Billick was stingy all night, racking up 31 saves.

The Wildcats trailed early 1-0, but answered with three straight goals. The Jr. Blues scored one more goal, but could not complete a comeback as the Wildcats scored a fourth and final goal to ice the game. Brent Sarcone and Kevin Huck (pictured above) led the team with three points each. Huck scored twice and added an assist, while Sarcone had a goal and two assists. Nicholas Ghidina added two assists on the game. Dave Lewandowski also scored a goal in the game, while Jack Wolgemuth, Kyle Kraemer, and Nick Swinteck all added assists.

The Wildcats suffered a hard loss on Saturday, falling to the Bandits 8-0. While they were shut out on Saturday, the ‘Cats bounced back on Sunday and scored nine goals against the Jr. Blues. Unfortunately, the Wildcats were defeated in overtime and were credited with a point in the 10-9 game.

This high-scoring shootout was a back-and-forth battle. The Wildcats came out of the gate smoking as they scored the first three goals early in the game. That was not enough, however, as the Jr. Blues were able to quickly climb their way back in to the game. The two teams traded goals throughout the contest with the score ending in regulation 9-9.

During the overtime period, the Jr. Blues struck the deciding blow when Colin Kingston ended the contest midway through the five minute sudden death stanza.

Despite losing the game the Wildcats outshot the Jr. Blues 40-31. Sarcone, Huck, and Kyle Kraemer each scored four points. Sarcone had a hat trick on the day and also added an assist. Huck scored a goal and picked up three assists. Kraemer added two goals and two assists on the day. Chad Costello also notched a pair of assists while Derek Hansberry and Dave Lewandowski each scored a goal and added an assist. Drew Walters scored a goal, while Skylur Jameson, Ghidina, Nick Klaren, Niklas Flodin, Chris Ochoa, and Peter Zamkochyan all added assists.

Alumni Report: This past week a pair of former Wichita Falls goalies performed exceptionally well for their college teams. Sophomore Peter Foster recorded his fourth shutout of the season as Air Force beat RPI, 1-0, in the championship game of the 54th annual Bank of America/Rensselaer Holiday Tournament, Saturday, November 27, at the Houston Fieldhouse in Troy, N.Y. The former Wichita Falls goalie is the national Division I leader in shutouts with four on the season. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Josh Siembida made 37 saves in a shutout in his first career start for the Division I Quinnipiac Bobcats. The Bobcats won the game 5-0 over the Bentley Falcons. Siembida's former Wichita Falls teammate, Matt Tyree, was playing for the Falcons.

Four former Wichita Falls players are currently playing for the same college team. Jim Redpath, Nate Sorenson, Anthony Forgione, and Adam Setten all play for the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point Pointers. Redpath, a freshman, has posted a 3-1-1 record with a 2.64 GAA, and a save percentage of .887. Sorenson and Forgione have each netted a goal and an assist.
