Texas Tornado News Release
In front of two more sellout crowds of over 4,000 each night, the Texas Tornado defeated the Santa Fe Roadrunners 6-1 Friday night, and the Springfield Jr. Blues 4-1 on Saturday night.
Friday night belonged to Tom Train. The Tornado team captain had three goals and an assist in the 6-1 win. Nick Mussolini had a goal, including the game-winner, and Brad Cooper and Sean McCauley had the others.
Ben Bishop stopped all 17 shots he faced before being ejected after fighting Santa Fe's goaltender Ryan Hatch. Eddie Wheeler was strong in relief stopping 10 of 11 shots.
On Saturday, the Tornado scored three power play goals en route to a 4-1 win against the Springfield Jr. Blues in front of 4,041 at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco.
Karl Sellan started and ended the scoring, bringing his league-leading goal total to 19. Austin Miller scored the eventual game-winner off a one-time slapshot pass from Mazzolini.
Train put the game out of reach with a power play goal with just over a minute remaining in the third period, and Sellan ended the scoring on a two-on-one break with Brad Cooper with just one second remaining.
Bishop stopped 28 of 29 shots, allowing only one Springfield goal on the power play.
SEVEN POINT TRAIN ROARS TO SHER-WOOD NAHL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
The role of the captain is to lead the way and Texas Tornado captain Tom Train did just that in Week 10 of the season, notching seven points in two games to capture the Sher-wood NAHL Offensive Player of the Week. Train opened the scoring for the Tornado on Friday night against Santa Fe with a late first period goal. He had set up another and scored yet another by the 3:07 mark of the second period, to put the game out of reach quite early. He polished off his hat trick with a goal at 15:55 of the second, making the score 5-0 en route to a 6-1 victory. The next night against the Springfield Jr. Blues, Train rumbled through the opposition again, setting up the game's first goal early in the first, then scoring a big insurance goal to make the score 3-1 with just over a minute to play in the game and helping set up a final tally in the dying seconds of the 4-1 game.
