Soo Indians News Release

Jason Kearney, the co-winner of the Week 10 Sher-wood NAHL Defensive Player of the Week, wasted little time in making an impact at the Soo. Recently acquired from Texarkana, Kearney entered the game after starting goaltender Troy Redmann (the Defensive Player of the Week in Week 2 this season), surrendered a pair of goals at Youngstown in the first period on Friday night. Kearney blanked the Phantoms the rest of the way, stopping all 14 shots he faced and giving his team a chance. Although the Indians did score late in the contest they fell 2-1, but Kearney earned a start in goal the next night and he shut out Youngstown 4-0, turning aside all 22 Phantoms shots and running his shutout streak to five periods. Staying with the hot goaltender, head coach Joe Shawhan stuck with Kearney on Sunday against the USNTDP and the goalie rewarded the coach's faith by running his shutout streak two more periods until surrendering an early third period goal. With the game tied 2-2 after regulation, Kearney blanked the U.S. team in overtime, and then stopped three of four shootout attempts to deliver the Indians a second consecutive victory. In all, the Gibsonia, Pennsylvania native played 141:23 of shutout hockey and allowed only two goals in 165 minutes on the week for a 0.73 goals against average and a .965 save percentage.
