Bandits Slip Past Sea Wolves, 3-2 in the Shootout

BILOXI, Miss. – It was seventh heaven for Jackson. As the Bandits prevailed over the Mississippi Sea Wolves in the seventh round of the shootout, 3-2. However, the Sea Wolves remain on top in the battle for the Nextel Cup, five points to two.

The Sea Wolves (9-4-2) opened the score at the 1:07 mark. Defenseman Austin Miller pinched from the blueline and cut to the net from the left circle, beating Tyrone Garner with a shot to make it 1-0 for Mississippi.

Jackson (8-9-0) responded at 5:36 of the first period. Mike Vigilante snapped the puck past Greg Gardner, tying the score 1-1.

The Bandits grabbed the lead in the middle stanza. John McNabb skated in uncontested, lifting a shot over Gardner's right shoulder. The goal was McNabb's 8th of the season, made it 2-1 for Jackson.

In the third, Mississippi tied it up on the power play. Jim Baxter's shot from the left point was re-directed by Dave Paradise. The 10th goal of the season for Paradise, knotted the score at two. Baxter's assist extended his point streak to 10 games, with four goals and eight assists over that span.

The game went to the shootout. Bandits' Mike Oliveira ended the contest in the seventh round with a nifty move on Gardner, depositing into the back of the net.

Mississippi converted on 1 of 5 power play opportunities. Jackson went 0 for 3 with the man advantage.

The Sea Wolves return home for a two-game homestand beginning Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. against the Louisiana IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. All casino employees buying one ticket, receive one ticket FREE!
