Bandits select Bucktooth with third overall pick

BUFFALO, N.Y. (September 14, 2006) -- The Buffalo Bandits selected Brett Bucktooth from Syracuse University with the third overall pick in the 2006 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft, held Wednesday night in New York City. Bucktooth was one of seven players drafted by Buffalo.

Bucktooth was a two-time All American at Syracuse, where he led the team in scoring with 55 points (37+18) during his senior season. A native of Onondaga Nation, NY, Bucktooth helped lead the Orange to the NCAA national semifinals last season.

In the second round, Buffalo selected Joe Walters out of the University of Maryland. Walters, a native of Rochester, NY, is the Terps' all-time leader in points (227) and goals (153). A four-time All-American, Walters is one of only 19 players since 1971 to score 150 goals in his collegiate career. He was also a member of the 2006 US National Team. The Bandits also selected Jay Thorimbert in the second round, a native of Niagara, Ont. who had nine goals and 16 points for the Niagara Thunderhawks in Junior B.

Buffalo selected Brendon Thenhaus in the third round. Thenhaus led the OLA Junior B in scoring last season with 98 points (54+44) while playing for the Oakville Buzz.

The Bandits had two picks in round four, taking defenseman Brent Miller of the Thunderhawks and faceoff specialist Nolan Godfrey out of Merrimack College. With its final pick, Buffalo selected goaltender Daniel Sams from the Junior A Peterborough Lakers.
