EDMONTON, AB-With speculation that veteran goalie Dwight Maetche may announce his retirement, the Rush look towards the future and used its first pick (3rd round, 28th pick) in the NLL 2006 Entry Draft to select Kurtis Wager, a goalie from St. Catherines, ON.
In the 4th round, 46th pick (from Arizona) the Rush selected, Cory Melville, a 5'11'', 185 lbs defensive player from the Junior A Burnaby Lakers.
With its last selection in the 5th round 54th pick, the Rush selected, Kris Hartzell, a 5'11", 190 lbs, transition defensive player from the Senior B Edmonton Outlaws. Hartzell played NCAA lacrosse at St. Andrews College in North Carolina. During the 2006 box summer league he played 11 games, scored 7 goals, 13 assists for a total of 20 points.
