Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
DAYTON, Ohio - The Quad Cities River Bandits fell behind 5-1 early in the contest but scored four late inning runs to tie the game at five runs a piece. It wasn't until the 16th inning that either team was able to plate a run as the Bandits scored three on a base loaded double by Luis Mateo giving them the final 8-5 edge in the five hour and 21 minute marathon.
Mateo went 1-for-2 in the game after entering as a pinch runner for Matt Adams. Five Bandit hitters had multi-hit days with Edgar Lara and Ted Obregon leading the way. Both were 4-for-8 while Obregon hit two doubles and Lara (12) clubbed his 12th homer of the season. Adams, Alan Ahmady, and C.J. Beatty each chipped in with a pair of hits. Beatty (5) knocked his fifth round-tripper and scored two runs while Ahmady drove a double and scored a pair of runs.
Justin Smith made the start for Quad Cities surrendering four runs on five hits through three innings of work. Dan Calhoun (6-0) kept his record unblemished by throwing 2.2 innings for the Bandits. He picked up his sixth win of the season while striking out three. Jamie Walczak (0-1) was charged with his first loss of the season after he allowed one run on three hits through 4.1 innings.
The Bandits look to sweep the Dragons on Monday night when they send right-hander Shelby Miller (3-4) to face off with Ricky Bowen (2-4). Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Fifth Third Field in Dayton.
