Bandits Officially Sign Fifth-Round Pick Melero for 2015 Season

Chicago Bandits Signee Branndi Melero

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Chicago Bandits have agreed to terms with fifth-round selection Branndi Melero on a one-year contract, per team general manager Aaron M. Moore.
Melero, who was named to the 2014 NFCA All-American First Team, enjoyed a standout career at Auburn. She smacked double-digit home runs in three of her four seasons as a Tiger and showed steady improvement throughout her collegiate career. In her All-American season as a junior, Melero batted .404 with 15 home runs and 78 RBI.
"We are very excited to add Branndi (Melero) to our roster," Moore said. "She was a fantastic player for Auburn and will be a terrific asset to our team."
Melero was instrumental in Auburn reaching the Women's College World Series for the first time in school history. The Tigers improbable run to Oklahoma City ended in the semifinals with a 3-2 loss to eventual national champion Florida.
"We were very impressed with what we saw from Branndi (Melero) in the Women's College World Series," Moore said. "She showed a great deal of poise at the plate and in the field and we're thrilled to have her become a member of the Bandits."
Melero is expected to report to the team for the 2015 NPF season this week. The Bandits are off to a 7-1 start and stand atop the NPF standings. Following a road series against the Akron Racers, the Bandits will return to The Ballpark at Rosemont to face the Dallas Charge in its inaugural season in the NPF.
