May 12, 2015 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Chicago Bandits News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Chicago Bandits announced today that Hannah McCall, a junior from Grant Community High School, has been named the weekly winner of the TransNational Scholar Athlete of the Week. McCall is now eligible to win the $1,000 scholarship that will be presented in June.
McCall has been named, not only for her work on the field, but her work in the community and classroom.
She is currently involved in multiple groups including National Honor Society, Student Council, and Grant High School's Gay-Straight Alliance. In addition, she volunteers her time as a pitching coach for youth softball players, a reading buddy at Fox Lake Library and helps to keep the roads of Grant Township clear of litter.
McCall is enrolled in several top level classes at Grant including AP Calculus BC, AP Language and Composition, Honors Anatomy and Physiology and Honors Spanish.
"Hannah is a fine example of what any student athlete should be," said Grant Township Varsity softball coach, Mike Dolezal. "She excels in the most rigorous and challenging classes Grant has to offer.
"She is not only our current number one pitcher, but one of our leading hitters as well. Hannah is a joy to coach, always putting the team first and is willing to do whatever it takes. "
At the time of her selection, McCall held an ERA of 0.84 with a .500 batting average and an on-base percentage of .555.
Parents, coaches, administrators and even fellow students are able to nominate a softball player from their school for the award. Submissions must be turned in each Friday by 5 p.m. in order to be considered for the award. Each week, the nominations will be voted upon by Bandits and TransNational staff members, with one winner being selected.
Nominations of student athletes will consist of both accomplishments on the diamond, in the classroom and in the community.
