Sioux City Bandits News Release
The Sioux City Bandits of United Indoor Football are pleased to announce the first signings for the 2008 season announced today by Assistant Head Coach Jarrod DeGeorgia.
O.J. Simpson (WR/KR, 510, 190lbs) Simpson played college football at Missouri Western, in St. Joseph, MO. After college, he played for the Kansas Koyotes of the APFL (American Professional Football League). While at the Koyotes, Simpson received the awards of League First-Team All Receiver and Rookie of the Year. He returned 6 kickoffs for touchdowns and had total of 13 touchdowns on the season, with 58 receptions totaling over 800 yards. Coach DeGeorgia quoting, O.J. came to a personal workout at the Long Lines Center; he impressed me with his speed, his hands and knowledge of the indoor game. He is a good route runner and very athletic.
Kaylon Price (RB/SS/WR, 61, 230lbs) Price played college football for Emporia State University in Emporia, KS, who belong to the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Kaylon has two years of indoor experience with the Omaha Beef and Iowa Blackhawks. Kaylon led the defense with 5 interceptions, returning two for touchdowns. He also was named to 2nd Team All League in the APFL. DeGeorgia says, Kaylon will help the team in various ways. He comes from a tradition-rich program at Emporia State University. His football intelligence is unquestioned, and will be a great asset to the team as a running back.
Steven Rush (QB/WR/KR, 510, 215lbs) Rush played for Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. The former Missouri State product had an electrifying year, scoring 13 touchdowns, catching 25 passes for 307 yards and nine touchdowns (a Blackhawks season record). On the ground he scored twice and had 30 yards rushing. Two of his touchdowns came on returns of 47 and 50-yards against Springfield. Rush was named League-MVP and also took home the Offensive Player of the Year award and was chosen as both wide receiver and kick returner on the first team. DeGeorgia quotes, Rush is an incredible athlete. He comes to the Bandits as a League MVP from the APFL, where he played mostly wide receiver for the Blackhawks. I believe he will fit in with the Bandits as a quarterback. I think that with my experience, playing quarterback, I will be able to help him develop as a quarterback for us. He has all the intangibles to be a successful quarterback in this league.
The next 45 days will be big for player signings. The Bandits will have signings each week for the next few weeks.
**Next week, the Bandits have scheduled a press conference for 3pm on Thursday, January 10th at the Box Office Lobby of the Tyson Events Center. The Bandits hope to see you there!
**The Bandits have scheduled a pre-season game for Sunday, March 2nd, at the Tyson Events Center against the St. Joseph Ravens. Kickoff is scheduled for 3pm. Tickets are priced at $7.50 for non-season ticket holders, and $5 for season ticket holders.
The Bandits open the 2008 regular season on March 8th, at Wichita Wild, in Wichita, KS. Home opener is scheduled for March 28th, with the Billings Outlaws at the Tyson Events Center.
